While the poems of Yeats and Stallings use the mythological tale to narrate two events of forceful sexual union, Hardy, despite being a late Victorian period, uses the inherent theme of prostitution, for questioning the so-called relation between virtue of a woman and her modesty. As far as the tone of Leda and the Swan is concerned, the poem employs the most violent and aggressive images of rape and sexual violence. Each of the images used by the poet is dramatically realistic and horrific, that vividly conjures up a picture of an innocent woman, Leda, being raped by a violent bird. Yeats employs the images that are at once violent and sexually explicit, such as the image of Ledas frail thighs is being pressed, or the sudden blow that she receives, which evoke a sense of fear and repulsion in the mind of the reader (Amos, 2016). It is important to note here that the poem employs the use of rape, primarily as a metaphor for embodying the imminent political turbulence in Ireland, and hence the poem offers a dramatic representation of the sexual assault in the poem (Amos, 2016). Yeats tried to show the tale of rape in a highly dramatic way, so that it could explain the conflict, collision and chaos involved in times of political conflicts. On the other hand, as opposed to the powerful, dramatic tone of Yeats poem, First Love: A Quiz is a poem that also presents a similar picture of rape and sexual abuse, in an objective, detached style. It should be noted that the dramatic style of narration that is present in both Yeats poem as well as Hardys poem is completely absent in case of this poem of Stallings. Written in a quite unconventional manner, First Love: A Quiz depicts the conscious choice made by a girl that ultimately leads to her seduction and sexual abuse. Although the protagonist being in love, is being exposed to many options, she chooses the wrong ones, that ultimately robs her of the chastity (Toomey, 2016). The tone of the poem is not powerfully strong as Yeats poem, and the integral reason behind the same is that Stallings is not having any grand political theme to be conveyed via the sexual metaphor of a mythological take. Despite the mythological element being used in First Love: A Quiz, the poem does not convey a sense of gr andeur, that defined the very essence of the Yeats poem. In First Love: A Quiz, Stallings uses the mythological tale to re-tell the story of sexual abuse, that helps to show how deceitful and unattainable love is, in todays world. The idea of sexual appetite and lust play an important role here, that does not receive any grand treatment, and is presented it in a rather cold way. The irony of the poem is too explicit in the tone, as in the beginning the lady protagonist expects the prince to be a charming man riding on a horse, only to realize at the end that he took me by the hair and is called by some men hell. Although the tone of the poem from the very beginning has been objective and coldly detached, by the time the reader reaches the end of it, he realizes that far from being a love poem, it exposes the reader to a tale of lust and betrayal (Saleh et al., 2014). The Ruined Maid is quite similar in its tone, with that of the First Love: A Quiz. This is especially because both the poems offer an ironical note at the end of the poem (Widyanti, 2014). While the tone of the latter suggests that ironically love is often degraded to the level of lust, the former questions the very foundation of the concept of chastity. Hardy asks in his poem to the reader, though in a latent and inherent way, that is a woman devoid of her chastity, essentially ruined. While First Love: A Quiz offers an ironical treatment of the very concept of love, Hardy satirically critiques the age-old, traditional concept of sexuality, as believed by the Victorians. It manifests across a variety of social categories, including class, race and ethnicity, culture, nationality, religion, gender and sexuality, and age, among others. Sociologists recognize three key types of social distance: affective, normative, and interactive. They study it through a variety of research methods, including  ethnography and participant observation, surveys, interviews, and daily route mapping, among other techniques. Affective Social Distance Affective social distance is probably the most widely known type  and the one  that is the cause of great concern among sociologists. Affective social distance was defined by Emory Bogardus, who created the Bogardus Social Distance Scale for measuring it. Affective social distance refers to the degree to which a person from one group feels sympathy or empathy for persons from other groups. The scale of measurement created by Bogardus measures this by establishing the willingness of a person to interact with people from other groups.  For example, an unwillingness to live next door to a family of a different race would indicate a high degree of social distance. On the other hand, willingness to marry a person of a different race would indicate a very low degree of social distance. Affective social distance is a cause of concern among sociologists because it is known to foster prejudice, bias, hatred, and even violence. Rather, it can simply signal that a person recognizes differences between herself and others whose race, class, gender, sexuality, or nationality may differ from her own. Sociologists consider this form of social distance to be important  because it is necessary to first recognize a difference in order to then see and understand how difference shapes the experiences and life trajectories of those who differ from ourselves. Interactive Social Distance Interactive social distance is a way of describing the extent to which different groups of people interact with each other, in terms of both frequency and intensity of interaction. She did not miss one breath while exclaiming, "Move it! Move it! Move it!" She was the dreaded female who had a nickname for everyone. My location was Fort Jackson, South Carolina in the hot and humid late hours of a Friday night in the middle of July 1994. The temperature climaxed at a sweltering 120 degrees during the day with only a relief of ten or twenty degrees during the night. I was in my fifth week of Basic Training and still trying to figure out if I wanted to be just a follower the rest of my life or if I wanted to be a leader some day. I did not figure out the answer to my problem until that miserable Friday night when I was so exhausted from a lack of sleep that I suddenly transformed sleep depravation into motivation. While those three drill sergeants were degrading me, I finally had had enough and decided right then and there I was going on a mission to succeed. My unit, 309th Training Detachment, was on its ... ...hours the two halves switched. In the morning everyone in the unit was tired but we were eager to get things packed up and marching back the ten miles that we had come just two days before. I was in a relaxed frame of mind because the ten miles back to the barracks just did not seem to be so bad compared to the past six-weeks of suffering. I knew that I would get the rest of the day to relax and then the following day I would be graduating from Basic Training. By the end of the six week Basic Training Course I felt I could succeed at any mission I set my mind to. By setting my mind to overcome my pain and suffering, I even believe I can accomplish anything that God has in store for me. I believe this makes me a better person and to this day I do not have any regrets about choosing to be a U.S. Army Soldier. I feel great about my success.

My Vacation Essay

There is one magical place where my family vacations to most summers. It is quiet, relaxing, beautiful, magnificent, and inspiring. Located in Saranac Lake, in rural New York, this is where my family has some of the best times. We stay in a calm and serene cabin where my Aunt and Uncle live. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Before I can explain what I do during this vacation, I must explain the background and history of this special family gathering. My family is not the type the goes on expensive or classy vacations to the Caribbean. We prefer memorable vacations, whether it is in Florida, Colorado, Cape Cod, or Saranac Lake. The places we go do not matter, but more the events that take place during them. Once my mom’s side of the family had grown, and all my grandparents, aunts, and uncles, had their children, everyone decided it would be fun to have a family reunion of some sort. My Aunt’s cabin sounded like a fun place to meet every summer- and that’s where we have met ever since. Now lots of the kids have grown up, and even though they are older they still enjoy some of the things we did when we first came. Some activities include hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and boating on the lake. Also, playing board games and watching movies when it’s rainy, having cookies down on the dock, or playing a good game of hide and seek in the woods. Vacations to the lake are like an escape from the outside world, and a chance to see nature and still have fun. Every summer is guaranteed to be a blast, in rain or shine. To conclude, my vacations to the lake will always remain memorable and special. I hope that one day I will be able to continue the tradition for my family. Through the years, I have always been sort of jealous of my friends who told about their extravagant vacations to paradise, but I have soon realized that I would never trade my experiences for any of theirs. Why? Because I have something that they will never have. I have a family that loves and cares for each other, and would do anything to make everyone happy. I have a lifetimes worth of memories from only a few days. Finally, I have joy.

Basketball is the better sport! For many years they have been many debates on which sport is the better one. For me basketball is better because of the skill required to play it. While playing basketball you don’t always have to be the biggest guy or girl on the court. Notice I said girl, girls can’t play football but they can play basketball. Football is a very rough sport it’s a contact sport meaning you have to make contact with the ball carrier, when playing basketball you don’t have to worry about getting hit in the head during a tackle and possibly suffer a concussion. Basketball also requires you to be a more athletic person because its continuous you’re always running up and down the court. When playing basketball each possession matters and in football one turnover isn’t going to hurt you. Basketball players are assigned specific roles on both sides of the ball whether it be offense or defense. Football players are just assigned one role and that’s just for one side of the ball. Basketball overall, has all of the characteristics to designate it as America’s most athletic sport. Basketball has always been played by both genders. Anybody that wants to play basketball can play due to its simplicity to learn. If a girl tried playing football the chances are that when she got hit that she would probably be seriously injured.
